Fox River Map

Post by Ken G »

If you click on the link below, you should get a pdf to download and print out.
If you can't or don't know how that works, you're on your own. I don't do tech support.

Fox River Map

Based on my notes, I came up with that magazine style design in 1997. That's about when Waterdog and Waterdog Journal started. You can see I've been doing this for some time. I don't like this look anymore. I started another one a couple of years ago that started the look you now see in this forum. It never went anywhere. It's of the whole area above and below the crap plant in Montgomery. Making a living has taken precedence over many things and it got put on the back burner again.

The maps were added to the magazine format in 2002. I did it for an ISA outing. From 2002 through 2005 I fished this area heavily, so I know even more than what is shown here.

As I mentioned, the intention was to make it look more like a journal. But I was in a hurry to do this and it is what it is. I now have aerial shots in color of quite a bit of the river. Looks much better that way.

I can make maps like this of the Fox RIver from the Geneva dam all the way through and down past Yorkville. Yes, that's how much of the river I've waded. Plus throw in all of the creeks that flow into the Fox in this stretch. I have rarely fished north of Geneva, so if you want info in that direction, you'll have to ask Darth. ;)

The story about these maps gets lengthy. Suffice to say I was so busy fishing at one time I never got to it. Now I don't get out fishing like I used to, but making a living is all important. So again, I'm not getting to it.

Some day. I see requests for info like this all the time. If I thought for a second I could make a good buck off it, I'd push it along. But I know that fishermen are the cheapest bastards on earth, :) , and they would want it for free.

I just may work on it this year.

Or I may go fishing more in my little free time. I have 2 daughters that insist on being taught the creeks I know.

Time much better spent. Ya think.

Ken now all these spots are going to be overloaded with people
Very cool, i definetly will have to get out to Les Arends F.P. sometime this spring wanted to fish it last year just never ended up going. I plan on fishing the fox alot more this year i will be putting your map to good use.
You can never fish the same river twice, by the time you get back it's not the same river.

Then you can get out your trusty map and move down or up stream.

If and when you go, I can fill in some details.

Good chance I will be there.. Those shots had to be taken in high water and that island at Glennwood is basically eroded ... I do love that stretch of river...Funny thing is when the Batavia Bait and tackle was in business and before they re did the Wilson street bridge I Never would leave that 300 yard run from the cop shop to island park. Don't laugh but i have seen more people in this stretch in the last couple of years sometimes as many as five or six at one time. I like you Ken always enjoy watching them walk thru the hole or fish holding spot and then fifteen minutes later I sashay up and catch a fish:shock: Right where they were standing... you Corrupted me!!!!

That is fun to do isn't it Kev. They stir up all the bottom critters and the smallies come in to feed. Classic when it works.

I was a little disappointed when I saw the shots too. Definitely high water. You can hardly see any of the riffles. Every few years they come out with update shots. I'm hoping the next ones will be when the water is normal.
