new years smallmouth

If I lived anywhere near it, I wouldn't bother fishing anywhere else.

new years smallmouth

Post by Norm Minas »

River is about normal flow, a lot more ice building up. If the weather report for next week is right, it will be frozen over for the most part.

The spot I really wanted too fish was just to dangerous to get to with all the ice and the steep, big rock strewn shoreline. No sense busting a leg , especially sense cell phone reception can be spotty there. Nice slower flow area, lots of boulders, been getting cold water smallmouth there for a long time .

Checked a historic slack spot, no go too much slushy stuff and ice chunks on the surface.

Next up , hit an inflow, some floating slushies and chunks but do able. Still a bit of a mud line, worked a weighted keeper hook/ Erie darter along it. Picked up one smallmouth out where the lip starts dropping into what passes for deeper water around here.

Topwater got caught up in the floating stuff too much, crankbait , rattlebait and fluke did nothing.

Called it a day, went to work.
What a long, strange trip it still is .

Put a glide in your stride, a dip in your hip and come onto the mother ship .

Long term forecast shows me getting out by the second week of March.

I can wait.
