I caught this/what is it?

Post by Anthony Mikos »

Caught this guy at my local pond on a feathered jig. No trailer or bait, just the feathered jig. Slow descent. Was trying for bluegill. Cursory Googling has me thinking it is a bigmouth buffalo, but, on the other hand, I have never even heard of a bigmouth buffalo.

Wat dis?

Golden shiner.

Just about the best big bass bait there is.

Next time, big hook, through the tail, a little bit of weight about 12-18 inches up and toss it in the pond. See what happens.

Out on the Apple River we used to catch creek chubs in the 6 to 10 inch range and hook them up that way. Some holes on that river you never see the bottom. Let it sit down there and wait. Have had fish on I couldn't get off the bottom. Used to do the same with shiners on lakes out in Virginia. Damn near break your wrist trying to turn the bass around.
