Blanked 4/22/12 AM

East and West Branches plus the main stem, not much to look at sometimes, but an astonishing fishery.

Blanked 4/22/12 AM

Post by Special Ed »

John Dyers and I blanked on the stretch North of Weigand Riverfront park on Sunday morning. The water was super clear and the weeds were already out of control. Only found a couple good deep stretches, but the lack of fish was depressing.

We didn't even see any bait or small fish for the whole 2 hours we were out there.

John was casting his new FSA fly rod, and I was pitching a Ken-Grub the entire time.

I might need to take a longer look at some maps and find more promising waters...

I blanked on Saturday as well. I did not hit the duper for smallies but hit the DPR for carp and gar instead.

I did all right in Ed's back yard the other day.

Went 6 smallies, 1 LM and a green sunfish in the creek across the river from me on Sunday.

Know a guy that hit the Orchard stretch from the bridge down to the first house over the weekend, then he hit a creek. Blanked.

Luck of the draw I think.

I'd have to get out a map of the Dupe. I used to do really well off 126 in Plainfield. There's a church right before you get to Route 59. Park behind it. I've walked a good distance in both directions from there. Caught and 18 right behind the church.

Did pretty good walking the shore from 52 down in Shorewood a couple of years ago. West side. Wading in there is a bitch. I refused to go out in the water more than a couple of feet. No weeds that I remember.

DPR I just don't know except for Hofmann area. Not sure I want to know anymore. Too many other rivers on my list.

Managed to get out and fish a stretch I have never fished before and that's sad because its literally about 3 minutes from my house. I fished the section from the dam in Channahon to about 500 yds downstream. There is some pretty good looking water through there but didn't catch a thing. Threw a bunch of different plastics and a swim jig but only bites came on a black tube and a green hula grub. All were either small fish nibbling or fish barely grabbing the bait. Also checked it out further downstream where it meets the dpr and it gets deep through there; may have to explore that a little more with the yak. Water is low and super clear and algae was not a problem through that stretch.

It was a gorgeous day to be on the water until the wind picked up. The FSA Fly Rod casts like a dream. Perfect rod for the smaller bodies of water in the area including the Driftless Area. I need to adventure into some of the Fox River creeks soon to try my luck on those.

Apple River. Perfect fly fishing for smallies country. If you've never done it, I can give you details.

When my kids are older and can all run around on their own we will make a trip up there to camp for a weekend. The wife and I have already talked about it. She loves the outdoors almost as much as I do, she just doesn't fish. :x

I'm building her a girly rod, pink and purple... Maybe that will help her get into it. Otherwise it would make Twade's little one happy for a B-Day present from Uncle Ed.

Or just make Travis happy.

It would be a different pink rod that would be needed for him to be happy.

My daughter wants a pink FISHING POLE like the one MC made for me.
She also wants a pink shotgun for when we go hunting.

Odd child.
