7/26/09 Little Rock Creek

From the Wisconsin border to the Illinois River, some of the best and easily accessible fishing in the Chicago area.

7/26/09 Little Rock Creek

Post by Ken G »

Broke out the fly rod. Seven and a half foot, 3/4 weight. Perfect for little creeks.

Hooked and landed 4 smallies from 12 to 16 inches. Thought I was going to tie into lots of little ones, but that seems to happen when I fish closer to the mouths of creeks. This spot is 9 or 10 miles up stream.

It was mainly a creek chub and shiner fest, but if you're only going to catch 4 smallies they may as well be good ones.

I like the water drop in the background. I try to tell my kids to never delete pictures. You have no idea what is there till you look at them bigger.

Did I say I was using a 3/4 weight? The 16 incher.

Those aren't branches laying in the water. The tree has been in the water so long, still attached to the shore that the tree is growing this way.

I have a degree in fine art with a concentration in painting and sculpture. I tend to look at things differently.

Tiny little flowers.

Knowing that the boulders in the Fox, and probably the creeks that feed into it, are thousands of years old always fascinates me. Dumped there by the last ice age. Most are smoothed down and relatively round. This one must have something in it to make it different than the others. It's showing some wear and tear.

Odd little fish doesn't seem to know what kind of panfish it wants to be. Seems to be a little of every kind I've ever caught.

While driving around looking for other access points I found this. Now I have to go look at an aerial map and see if it runs along the creek. Then I have to go find the owner and make him my best friend forever.

Nice Ken, sounds like you had a good time.
You can never fish the same river twice, by the time you get back it's not the same river.

It was very nice. Only draw back was that they are working on this forest preserve putting in parking lot, shelter, toilets.

For some reason they started working at 6:30 am on a Sunday so there was a little more noise than I was hoping for that you can hear all up and down the creek.

Who the hell ever heard of construction guys working on a Sunday?

Must be non union.
