Re: Three days
In the regions that allow native American spearing, look at the time tables. In MN and WI, they set up the native Americans to have the period surrounding the 4th new moon. This wasn't by chance, and it isn't some arbitrary time period slotted by the Dept. of Natural Resources. The tribal councils n...

It can't be temperature driven. Keep walleye under ice all year long and they will still spawn right around the 4th new moon, some early, some late. Pike are the same way. They don't spawn at ice-out, they will spawn under the ice if they have to. All animals spawn when their bodies tell them to. It...

Re: Three days
Water warmed fast and we are right at the precipice of the "normal" time of the year for smallie spawning. Over the last 3 years I have bookmarked confirmed smallmouth spawning timeframes on the Fox between Yorkville and St. Chuck. By moon phase. Why moonphase? Walleye go by moon phase not...

Great report! I love finding hidden gems like that. I actually think that sunfish you have in the first picture is a longear sunfish. Pumpkinseeds have a different color variation and usually have a bit of red around the edge of their ear (opercle). I think the longear is the more dazzling fish in t...

Also, for anyone willing to try the WWD at the Montgomery treatment facility: Park at one of the two buildings off Rt. 31, in the parking spaces provided for either of the offices. Gear up and walk between the two buildings, next to the dumpsters, down the embankment onto the gravel road. Keep headi...
